Georges Salameh

BIO:
Georges Salameh. I’m a Sicily based Greek-Lebanese visual storyteller. Born in Beirut on 1st February 1973. My family moved to Athens in 1989, towards the end of the Lebanese civil war. After my film studies in Paris (1991-1995), I moved back to Greece in 1997, where I made my first steps. Between 1998 and 2006, I produced a series of works that I call “cahiers de la paix” (notebooks during peace time). Despite the diversity of this material, the content of those notebooks amply exceeds the scope of my years in Athens. They are in fact, some autobiographical narratives that evoke the most crucial period of my formation and experimentations both in photography & filmmaking. In 2006, I moved to Palermo & founded in 2009, with Laura Sestito, MeMSéA, an audio-visual production house. That’s where I made my first short movies, videos and photographic series. I explored for the first time my own material as a combination of documents, archives, experiences, forms of narration & languages. Wandering all those years between Mediterranean shores, my natural habitat, when I have to define myself, I become a storyteller. Sedimentations of songs, stories, myths, migrations & longings leave a trace behind my path, some visible and some hidden. Layout and stratification, alienation, raw fiction, the poetics of light and humor all play their part in this narrative. (personal website)
