WILL GOVUS: “NIGHT”

The divided line theory.

It’s not so important to know that Will Govus has lived in a small rural town in north Georgia called Ellijay all his life, and that he uses a Yashica 124 TLR, in combination with a big heavy tripod, a cable release, and Kodak Portra negative film. And it’s not so important to know that he’s only seventeen and the majority of knowledge he has relating to photography comes directly from the Web, whether it be influence or technical skills. Or maybe is it, and what looks like an absolute and objective vision, more like a state of mind than a representation, could not be such if it wasn’t his eye, and only his, to seize it? Asking this becomes natural, noting his series “Night”, and it’s easy to remain astonished in front of the purely emotional and almost metaphysical nature of these true “revelations” by night. As if Will’s walks through a sleepy town covered with fog were nothing but small and constant trips to the non-perceptible dimension.
