MARIA PASSAROTTI: “RURAL”

The disappearance of the horizon.

The gaze of Maria Passarotti, Brooklyn based photographer and painter, deeply intrigued by the intersection of man and nature, moves into a smaller scale vista through an urban and suburban landscape filled by iconic architectural elements, and nature’s undeniable persistence. The human presence is evoked through details, as electrical wires, roads and hints of domestic life, scattered within each landscape as individual traces to be followed. “In my photographs”, Maria says about it, “I transform unkempt backyards into wildernesses, narrow strips of trees along parking lots into forests and golf courses and basketball courts into fields”. It creates images where man-made and natural elements peacefully coexist or one aggressively dominates the other, providing the viewer with means to meditate upon the chaotic beauty of nature.
