Stories to tell

There are different reasons for moving to California: leaving behind a bad relationship, escaping your hometown, or thinking you’ll be a star. However the problem, as the young photographer Liz Kuball tell us, is “what you find when you get here is that things aren’t what you thought they’d be”. It is in this other side, more hidden, of the city that Kuball find the freedom to photograph and to define what she loves about photography and why. In her shots, taken from the series “California Vernacular” and “South of Cota” we found a fresh yet conscious look. Many disillusioned move back, but others stay, say Kuball, and “hang on to a world that, to us is even more fantastic than the one we thought we’d find, because it’s real in its absurdity and because we have stories to tell”.
